Importance of a Good Bed Frame

It may come as a surprise, but bed frames actually do serve a purpose rather than just looking nice. There’s certainly a handful of people out in the world that don’t see it that way and choose to forgo the bed frame altogether. Maybe you’re one of them. That’s totally okay, but it’s a good thing you’ve stumbled across this article.

The main purpose of a bed frame is essentially to provide a strong mattress foundation. Thanks to this foundation, your bed will hopefully be held in place. Well at least with a strong, solid, high-quality mattress foundation your mattress will be held in place. Without a bed frame, you might find yourself slowly and slowly inching throughout the room. These small movements normally happen while tossing and turning throughout the night, not providing the most restful sleep ever.

Another important factor of having a good bed base is the fact that there are bacteria on the floor! No matter how much you clean and wash your floor, dust can be found and dust can be nasty. Anyone with dust allergies should be extra careful when choosing to situate themselves and their mattress on the floor without any sort of bed frame material. You’ll be closer to the ground and in turn, closer to dust and dust mites.

Along with dust, you might find mold or mildew growing under your mattress. Being placed directly on the floor doesn’t give your mattress much space or time to air itself out. Not allowing it to air out and dry might cause it to become filled with mold or mildew. You also probably won’t notice because it will be growing under the mattress, but circulating up through and into your sleeping space. GROSS. If you’re wondering how your bed will get wet, there are lots of explanations. Moisture can come into the room through watering plants, rainy days, and open windows. There are plenty of ways for moisture to find its way into your bedroom and unfortunately, it’s definitely hard to get it out of a mattress that’s sitting on the floor.

Last but certainly not least, everyone’s top favorite bedtime surprise, spiders. A mattress sitting on the floor is an open invitation to little spiders and bugs climbing their way into your mattress and under your sheets. It’s highly recommended for anyone afraid of these sweet little crawlers to keep their bed up on the frame. A good bed base will certainly provide for a safe distance between you, the ground, and well, anything lurking around.

Along with safety and extra airflow, bed frames can offer some more aspects other than just being aesthetically pleasing. Purchasing a bed frame with a headboard is a great option for those that like to Netflix binge from bed or read throughout the night. A proper headboard can make sitting in bed much more comfortable and inviting. It’s also great for late-night chatting or hanging out.

They’re also great for storage! The amount of storage that is added or found in a good bed base is awesome. These storage options are amazing for rooms that might not have much storage or just want to add up some more space by eliminating a dresser. Some bed frames provide enough storage to get rid of having a dresser altogether. Some even have wrap-around bookshelves! These are seriously great investments to save space and keep your room a bit more organized.

Wood Bed Frames vs. Metal Bed Frames

Now that the air has been cleared on the importance of actually investing in a bed frame, it’s important to look at what the best type of bed frame options are. There are definitely a ton of different options out there, but wooden and metal seem to be the two most popular and commonly found bedframes. To be honest, they’re overall pretty good options. Metal and Wooden bed frames definitely both have their own pros and cons. Which ultimately makes the final decision up to whatever you outweighs the other. At the end of the day you really have to ask; Is a wooden bed frame right for you?

Pros of a Wooden Bed Frame

Sturdiness: Wooden bed frames have a pretty high tolerance to anything that happens. They’re sturdy and serve as an exceptional mattress foundation. A strong bed base that will certainly hold your mattress in place and make for a no moving, full night’s sleep. Wooden bed frames have been serving as bed frames for a bit longer, therefore they have techniques of shaping the wood in a way that just isn’t quite possible with metal frames.

Environmental Ethics: Wooden bed frames are definitely more sustainable than metal. We know metal comes from factories and needs to be processed using a variety of different pollutants. Wood on the other hand can most definitely be a sustainable source. Finding a company that provides sustainably sourced wood isn’t too difficult, and finding a mattress made with sustainably sourced wood is even easier.

    Cons of a Wooden Frame

Fire: Unfortunately wooden frames are most definitely a fire hazard. There’s no way around the fact that wood burns when there’s a fire. If the bed frame catches on fire, it will quickly blaze up in flames. This is a pretty easy thing to avoid though. Making sure no flames or flammable materials are far away from the wooden bed frame, should be enough to ensure that no fire is started.

Hard to Move: With the wooden bed base, moving your bed can be very difficult. Not only is it heavy, but it also usually doesn’t come with wheels. This is unfortunate for someone who moves often or likes to rearrange the bedroom. No one wants to struggle to move their bed around and it’s important to take your lifestyle into consideration when purchasing a wooden bed frame.

    Pros of a Metal Bedframe

It’s easy to take care of: Metal bed frames are much easier to take care of than their wooden counterparts. It’s much more difficult to scratch or dent a metal frame. Wood can definitely be dented quite easily. After the metal is painted and put together, it can be very difficult to get down deep and scratch or dent it.

Easy to move: Moving a metal bed frame is much easier than moving a wooden bed frame. Not only is it easier because of the overall light material, but in many cases, metal bed frames do come equipped with wheels. Trust us, when it comes time to move again, your friends are going to love you a lot more if you have an easier bed to move to. This type of bed really fits a lifestyle where you’re moving around more often than not.

Cons of a Metal Bed Frame

They are squeaky: Squeaky bed frames are not fun! They’re loud and usually annoying even just to roll over in bed. Unfortunately, metal frames become much more squeaky than wooden frames. Making them a not-so-hot choice on the list of bed frames. In this case, you might find yourself replacing the bed frame more often than that of a wooden bed frame.

They get rusty: Around the same time metal bed frames tend to get squeaky, they also tend to get a bit rusty. Unfortunately,  metal frames are bound to get rusty eventually. There’s no telling exactly when that’ll happen but in order to keep it from happening it’s important to maintain the metal frame and there are not many people out there who have time to wash their bed frame.

    Best Wood Bed Frame Options

At this point, one should definitely have a bit better idea about if a wooden bed frame is the right choice. Honestly, buying a bed frame is a bit of an investment, so it’s totally understandable that you’re just not sure what kind to purchase. If you’re at the point of knowing that a wooden bed frame is the right choice, then let’s move on to the different options. Another great thing about wooden compared to metal is that there are a ton more options of different styles!

These bunk beds are built to be strong and withstand all of your children’s play and crazy games. We all know how out of hand the kiddos can get, especially when sharing a bedroom. Therefore, providing a bed space that is strong and can withstand all their fun and games is essential.

There are also wooden bed frame options that even have more than just the traditional bed frame. Some are equipped with slides, hiding spaces, reading nooks, and more. These are bed frames that are sure to spice up any bedroom, they’ll even make a shared bedroom more fun and inviting.

    Wooden Loft Bed Frames

Loft bed frames are really awesome because they provide the bedroom with even more space. Rather than taking up space on the floor, these beds are high in the air. Making more space for say an office, a small lounge area, or possibly a small bedroom library. Wooden loft bed frames are even better because they’re more sturdy and can hold anything you decide to put on them! Even if it’s all of your hundreds of books.

One of the best things about a wooden bed frame is that it can be passed down from generation to generation. Even with a few nicks, scratches, and indentations, family heirlooms are amazing and a wooden frame won’t ever rust and if taken care of it can last for many more generations. Depending on your overall lifestyle, a wooden bed frame may be the exact addition needed in your home! Whether it’s an addition to the master, guest, or children’s bedroom, it’s hard to not fall in love with a sturdy wooden bed frame.
